Influence factors of student nurses′ workplace satisfaction during their initial stage of clinical practice and correlation study of clinical belongingness

Abstract:Objective To survey the undergraduate and junior college student nurses′ satisfaction of workplace during their initial stage of clinical practice, analyze factors that may influence student nurses′ workplace satisfaction, and discuss the relationship between it and clinical belonging. Methods From 20th September to 20 th October 2017, 128 student nurses practicing for 2-3 months in 2 grade-A tertiary hospitals in Beijing were surveyed, with the general information, nursing workplace satisfaction questionnaire (NWSQ) and belongingness scale: clinical placement experience (BES:CPE). Results Among 128 student nurses, total points of job satisfaction scores was (66.77±14.09) scores, total points of clinical belonging score was (125.05±20.03) scores, there were significant differences between workplace satisfaction of student nurses with different gender, education, place of origin, individual voluntary and career planning (P < 0.05), and it was positive correlation with clinical belonging (r = 0.67, P < 0.05). Conclusion Nursing students′ gender, education, place of origin, individual voluntary ,career planning and sense of belonging influenced their workplace satisfaction during their initial stage of clinical practice. Workplace satisfaction is a key determinant of career decisions and influence student nurses′ decisions to continue in the profession.
