Abstract:Arterial stiffness is a reliable abnormality of arterial structure and function, and it is one of the best signs of arterial stiffness. Recent studies have shown that arterial stiffness is a powerful predictor of cardiovascular events, including acute myocardial infarction, stroke and heart failure, as well as all-cause mortality. To evaluate of arterial stiffness with scientific and standardized noninvasive approach has great clinical implication for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. In this review, the different noninvasive measurements of arterial stiffness will be systematically evaluated, and the relationships between arterial stiffness and cardiovascular biomarkers, target organ damage and cardiovascular end-point events also will be summarized and discussed.
