Study on chemical constituents from stems and leaves of Sedum aizoon L.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents in the stems and leaves of Sedum aizoon L. Methods The stems and leaves of Sedum aizoon L. was extracted with 70% ethyl alcohol to give ethanol extracts, which was further diluted by H2O and extracted with petroleum ether, chloroform, EtOAc and n-BuOH, respectively. They were isolated and purified by silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 gel column chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography methods. The structures were elucidated based on the physic-chemical characters and spectral analysis. Results Nine compounds were obtained from n-BuOH extracts of 70% ethyl alcohol extracts from stems and leaves of Sedum aizoon L., which was kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), myricetin-3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), quercetin-3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside (3), herbacetin-3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside (4), woodorien (5), vanilloloside (6), benzy-1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), benzylethyl-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (8), benzylethyl-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9), respectively. Conclusion Compound 4 is a new compound, which has not yet been reported. Compounds 6-9 are isolated from genus Sedum for the first time.
